Beth Israel Speaker Series

Jay Paterno - Author

Hurry, Tickets are going quickly.

We are happy to announce the next program sponsored by our Beth Israel Lecture Series will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2015. Our guest speaker will be Jay Paterno, former football coach, player and son of the Penn State Nittany Lions football coach Joe Paterno.

Jay was on Penn State's staff for seventeen seasons primarily as the quarterback coach. Prior to being on the PSU staff, he was on the coaching staff of Virginia, Connecticut and James Madison University. He has been named the best quarterbacks coach in the big ten by rivals.com and has been cited as one of the best offensive coaches in the country following a rose bowl season. Jay’s coaching career at Penn State came to an end following the hiring of head coach Bill O’Brien on January 7, 2012. He is a writer whose work has appeared in numerous publications, including the Centre Daily Times, the Penn Stater, and USA Today. His columns for StateCollege.com have been cited by Sports Illustrated and ESPN.

In light of the events leading to his father’s firing as head coach and subsequent passing Jay wrote, “Paterno Legacy: Enduring Lessons from the Life and Death of my Father”. In his book Jay paints a picture of his father’s life and career, as well as discusses the evidence he uncovered regarding his father’s knowledge and actions pertaining to the horrific crimes conducted by his former assistant coach. Noting the scandal itself was but a short moment in his father’s life and legacy, the book focuses on the legendary coach as a father, grandfather, and his relationship with his players and coaches. It is billed as a memorial to one of the most celebrated coaches in college football history.

The afternoon program will begin at 4:00PM and all are invited to a “Meet and Greet Reception” with our speaker following his talk and a Q&A session.
