Beth Israel Choir Shabbat

"Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."

So remarked 19th century German-Jewish poet and author, Berthold Auerbach.

We arrive on Friday evening covered with the dust of everyday life. We walk into the Sanctuary stressed and preoccupied. Then, with the first notes of Hinei Ma Tov, the dust begins to wash away. As we sing and pray and rejoice together, we are transported. Individuals become a community in song, raising one voice together in joy, until we finally are on our feet, singing not just with our voices but with our souls. We leave with the buzz of renewal that is the promise Shabbat brings.

These are the melodies that transport us. We offer you this as an invitation to come join us Friday evening from 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm for a traditional, fully participatory Shabbat evening service, with song and instrumentation.
